Forrest Gump Storyline

The story follows the life of low I.Q. Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) and his meeting with the love of his life Jenny. The film chronicles his accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950's through the 1970's including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc. The problem is, he's too stupid to realize the significance of his actions. Forrest becomes representative of the baby boomer generation having walked through life blindly.

Forrest Gump trivia

The background music playing while Forrest is using the bathroom in the Kennedy White House is the theme from _Camelot (1967)_ (qv), which was a name often used in reference to 'John F. Kennedy' (qv)'s years in office.
The Bayou le Batre hospital named after Forrest Gump is actually the University of South Carolina - Beaufort Performing Arts Center.
The first boy in the school bus who refuses to let Forrest sit next to him is played by 'Alexander Zemeckis' (qv), director 'Robert Zemeckis' (qv)' son.
The line, "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump," was ad libbed by 'Tom Hanks' (qv) while filming the scene and director 'Robert Zemeckis' (qv) liked it so much that he decided to keep it in.
The park bench that 'Tom Hanks' (qv) sits on for much of the movie was located in historic Savannah, Georgia, at Chippewa Square. The fiberglass bench he sat on has since been removed and placed into a museum to avoid being destroyed by the weather. The church where the feather first falls is about 100 yards just down the street from his bench. The bench is currently held in the Savannah History Museum, Savannah, Georgia.

Forrest Gump goofs

FAKE: When the number 4 bus arrives for the first woman that Forrest talked to on the bench, the bus takes off right when she exits the frame, clearly not giving her enough time to board it. Since only a small portion of the end of the bus is shown, the bus would have had to wait a couple more seconds for the woman to walk to the front of the bus and then board it.
FACT: When Forrest gets his Army discharge (before the 1972 New Years), he is practicing ping pong in the barracks' gym. The basketball court has a 3-point arc. Although, the 3-point arc was introduced in the ABA in 1968, they weren't standard until after 1986. So unless his barracks were home to an ABA team, there wouldn't be a 3-point arc.
FACT: When Forrest sits on the bench by the square and the bus passes him, the traffic is going in the wrong direction. In Savannah, traffic goes counter-clockwise round city squares.
DATE: Car tire tracks are visible in the segment remembering Nathan Bedford Forrest's Civil War ties with the KKK. This was a goof present in the original footage which was taken from 'D.W. Griffith' (qv)'s _The Birth of a Nation (1915)_ (qv). The CG team considered removing them, but decided not to.
CONT: At the Black Panther office in DC, after Jenny's boyfriend smacks her and Forrest attacks him, the two of them slide off of a table onto the floor fighting. When they cut away, then back to the fight, the now-collapsed table is under them.
