Sixteen Candles Storyline

Samantha's life is going downhill fast. The fifteen-year-old has a crush on the most popular boy in school, and the geekiest boy in school has a crush on her. Her sister's getting married, and with all the excitement the rest of her family forgets her birthday! Add all this to a pair of horrendously embarrassing grandparents, a foreign exchange student named Long Duc Dong, and we have the makings of a hilarious journey into young womanhood.

Chicago radio legend 'Dick Biondi' (qv) is heard on the radio (uncredited)in the opening bedroom scene where 'Molly Ringwald' (qv) is looking in her mirror.
When Sam ('Molly Ringwald' (qv)) and her friend are in the lunch line, one of the menu selections behind the lunch lady's head reads "Canned Brownies in Light Syrup."
The license plate on Jake's car reads "21850", which is director 'John Hughes (I)' (qv)'s birthday (2/18/50).
When 'Molly Ringwald' (qv) and 'Anthony Michael Hall' (qv) first met, they did not get along at all. Director 'John Hughes (I)' (qv) took them shopping at a music store and they discovered they had similar musical tastes and eventually got along.
One scene which was cut from the final theatrical version but later shown in the TV version was shot in the cafeteria at one of Niles East's two sister schools', Niles North.

Sixteen Candles goofs

FAKE: When Caroline shows Farmer Ted the locks of hair that got cut off, they are much longer and darker than the section missing from the back of her head.
BOOM: When Sam is talking to her mom in the kitchen, you can see the shadow of the boom mic on the cabinet between them.
SYNC: When Farmer Ted is driving Caroline around she says, "Looks like rain! Time to put the top up!" her mouth is just laughing, not speaking.
FAIR: When the second nerd is removed from the seniors' trunk, it appears the senior is lifting out a dummy, but in fact, the actor just stiffened his body. You can see him blinking.
CONT: When Caroline and Jake are slow dancing at the school dance, Caroline's hair changes between shots.
