Coach Carter Storyline

In 1999, Ken Carter, a successful sporting goods store owner, accepts the job of basketball coach for his old high school in a poor area of Richmond, CA, where he was a champion athlete. As much dismayed by the poor attitudes of his players as well as their dismal play performance, Carter sets about to change both. He immediately imposes a strict regime typified in written contracts that include stipulations for respectful behavior, a dress code and good grades as requisites to being allowed to participate. The initial resistance from the boys is soon dispelled as the team under Carter's tutelage becomes a undefeated competitor in the games. However, when the overconfident team's behavior begins to stray and Carter learns that too many players are doing poorly in class, he takes immediate action. To the outrage of the team, the school and the community, Carter cancels all team activities and locks the court until the team shows acceptable academic improvement. In the ensuing debate, Carter fights to keep his methods, determined to show the boys that they need to rely on more than sports for their futures and eventually finds he has affected them more profoundly than he ever expected.

Coach Carter goofs

CONT: In a scene in the Locker Room after a game, Coach Carter announces that they have qualified for a tournament. Here, we see Junior Battle take off his headband, in the next shot he has it back on, followed again with it off then on again
CONT: In the game against Bay Hill, the clock shows 1:20 remaining and then shows 1:22 remaining in the next scene.
CONT: During the game against St. Francis, when Richmond is making their comeback, one play they get a steal and make a lay-up. During the play Timo Cruz is seen on the court in the game. The camera then switches to the bench and clearly shows Timo sitting down clapping.
CONT: When coach Carter drives to school to accept the coaching job, he drives past the same auto repair shop (with the phone number 562-432-7676) twice, from opposite directions.
CONT: During the scene just after the first training session with Carter, the boys go to a café and Worm is talking about the '2 for 1 offer' with Kyra's friends. Kyra starts off holding a drink in her right hand, but between shots it switches to her holding a paper bag, then back to the drink, before Kyra and Kenyon walk off together.

'Channing Tatum' (qv) had never played basketball before making the movie so he had to have individual training with the coaches to get up to speed with the other actors.
